Top 10 Fractional AI Officer Consultants (2026)

By Dmytro Negodiuk | April 7, 2026 | 8 min read

I spent two weeks researching every fractional AI officer consultant I could find. Called some. Checked their websites. Looked at pricing, case studies, actual client results.

Most don't publish their prices. Some charge $2,500 a month. One charges $54,000 per quarter. The range is wild, and there's no directory that lays it all out honestly.

So I built one.

Full disclosure: I'm on this list. I run Negodiuk AI Consulting and I'm a fractional AI officer myself. I included myself because leaving myself out would be dishonest, and ranking myself #1 would be obnoxious. I'm at #7. Make of that what you will.

What to look for in a fractional AI officer

Before the list, three things that matter more than brand name:

1. Do they build or just advise? Some fractional AI officers hand you a strategy deck and disappear. Others actually build the systems. Ask for examples of implementations they personally shipped. If they can't name specific tools, APIs, or workflows they built, they're strategists, not operators.

2. Can you see their pricing? If pricing isn't on the website, it usually means "expensive." That's fine for enterprise. Not great if you're a $3M ecommerce brand trying to figure out if you can afford this.

3. Do they have a niche? A fractional AI officer who serves "all industries" is a generalist. That works for Fortune 500 companies with clear AI roadmaps. It doesn't work for a 15-person distribution company that doesn't know where to start.

The list

1. ChiefAIOfficer.com

Price: $12,000 one-day kickstart | $54,000 per 90-day embedded engagement | $43,500 per 90-day strategic oversight

Best for: Mid-market to enterprise companies with budget for premium AI transformation

The most expensive option on this list. They also sell CAIO certifications ($6,500-$12,000 each). Their "M.A.P. Framework" structures AI adoption into measurable phases. If you have $50K+ to spend per quarter and want a structured enterprise approach, this is the top shelf. Downside: no named founder or public face behind the brand.

2. GAI Insights (Paul Baier)

Price: Not published (premium tier)

Best for: C-suite executives at large enterprises who need board-level AI strategy

Paul Baier runs this with analyst Adam Rappaport. They reference work with IBM, GE, and Meta. This is enterprise AI consulting with conference presence and research publications. If you're a VP at a Fortune 500 company, this is your lane. If you're running a $5M business, you're probably not their target client.

3. Head of AI

Price: GBP 4,000/month (4 half-days) | GBP 7,500/month (8 half-days) | GBP 10,500/month (12 half-days)

Best for: UK and European companies wanting structured AI leadership with clear time commitments

UK-based with transparent monthly pricing. They promise results in 90 days and use an "Outcome-Driven AI Framework." They also run a staffing model where they supply fractional CAIOs to companies. Clean website, clear packages. The GBP pricing and UK focus limits them for US companies, but they do serve international clients.

4. Faye Digital (Jason Green)

Price: Not published

Best for: Mid-market organizations that want AI wrapped into broader digital services

Jason Green launched their fractional CAIO service in March 2026. Faye is an established digital agency adding AI leadership as a new service line. They also offer AI workshops, their own "Faye Agent Portal," and CRM/software services. If you want a full-service digital agency that includes AI strategy, this works. If you want someone focused purely on AI, the agency model might mean diluted attention.

5. Momentum AI

Price: Starting at $2,500/month

Best for: Companies with smaller budgets looking for entry-level fractional AI leadership

The lowest published price point I found. They market themselves as "70-90% less than a full hire." Good entry option if you want to test fractional AI leadership before committing to a bigger engagement. Thin web presence, so hard to evaluate depth of experience.

6. Alpha Apex Group

Price: Not published

Best for: Companies that might want to transition from fractional to full-time AI leadership

Alpha Apex does both fractional CAIO placements and executive search. That dual model is useful if you want to start with a fractional engagement and eventually hire someone full-time. They cover ML, data analytics, automation, and ethics/compliance. Global reach with multi-region presence.

7. Negodiuk AI Consulting (Dmytro Negodiuk)

Price: $2,000-$3,000 AI audit | $3,000-$5,000/month retainer | $5,000-$8,000 AI sprint

Best for: Small and mid-size businesses ($1M-$10M revenue) in ecommerce, distribution, and property management

This is me. I run 8 businesses on AI infrastructure I built myself. 47 agents, $623/month total AI cost. I'm not advising from the side. I operate on AI daily. My background is 13 years in distribution and ecommerce across 15 countries. I placed 6 brands in 10+ retail chains, full cycle from China to shelf. Now I build the same operational infrastructure with AI. Featured in Forbes. Based in NYC. I work with companies that know they need AI but don't know where to start. I come in, find the 3-5 processes burning the most time, build the systems, train the team. Most clients see ROI in 60 days. My pricing is below market average because I'm building this practice and I'd rather have 5 happy clients than 1 overcharged one.

8. Proactive Logic Consulting

Price: Not published

Best for: Technology, finance, healthcare, and manufacturing companies needing AI implementation support

They offer strategy, implementation, data analysis, training, and custom solutions across multiple industries. Broad scope but hard to evaluate online. Their service page returned a 404 when I checked, which isn't a great sign for a technology consulting firm.

9. Duforest AI

Price: Not published

Best for: Organizations focused on AI governance, ethics, and education

They lean into AI governance and risk management alongside strategy. If your industry has heavy compliance requirements (healthcare, finance, education), this focus on responsible AI could be valuable. Smaller player with limited online visibility.

10. ISHIR

Price: Not published

Best for: Companies wanting fractional AI leadership combined with offshore development capabilities

ISHIR is a global IT outsourcing company based in Dallas with offices in India, Singapore, Dubai, and Latin America. They offer fractional CAIO as one of many services. The advantage: if you need AI strategy plus development resources, they have teams ready. The disadvantage: CAIO work is a side offering, not their core business.

How to pick the right one

Three questions to ask any fractional AI officer before signing:

"What AI systems are you personally running right now?" If the answer is "I advise clients on AI strategy," that's a consultant. If the answer includes specific agents, automations, and monthly costs, that's an operator. Both are valid. Know which one you need.

"What's your smallest client?" If they only work with $100M+ companies, they won't understand a 15-person ecommerce brand's problems. And vice versa.

"Show me one thing you built that's still running." Strategy decks gather dust. Working systems generate ROI. Ask for a live demo of something they actually built and shipped.

FAQ

How much does a fractional AI officer cost?

Entry-level fractional AI officers charge $2,000-$5,000 per month for small businesses. Mid-market rates run $5,000-$15,000 per month. Enterprise engagements range from $15,000-$40,000+ per month. Hourly rates typically fall between $150-$700 depending on scope and experience.

What does a fractional AI officer do?

A fractional AI officer works part-time (typically 8-20 hours per week) as your company's AI strategy leader. They audit your operations, identify where AI saves time and money, build or oversee implementation, train your team, and measure ROI. Think of it as hiring a $250K-$500K executive for 20-30% of the cost.

Should I hire a fractional AI officer or a full-time one?

If your company does under $50M in revenue, fractional is almost always the better choice. You get senior AI leadership without the $250K-$500K salary commitment. Most companies need 8-16 hours per week of AI strategy work, not 40. A fractional engagement lets you test the value before committing to a full-time hire.
